Terms and disclaimer
The small print, in plain English.
Tuned In is here to help you start conversations. It isn't a substitute for professional help. Here's exactly what that means.
Last updated 7 November 2026
The short version
- Everything here is general information, not advice for your child or your family.
- We're not doctors, lawyers, psychologists or a government service.
- Where we share safety guidance or reporting steps, we link back to the original government source. If we ever differ, the government source wins.
- In an emergency, call 000. Don't wait to read anything here.
Where our information comes from
Our guidance is built on official Australian government sources. Wherever we draw on them for safety advice, rules or reporting steps, we link back to the original page so you can read it for yourself and get the latest version. If anything on Tuned In differs from the official source, follow the official source.
Online safety guidance, and where to report cyberbullying, image-based abuse and harmful content.
Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation (ACCCE)
Reporting online child exploitation.
Scam alerts and reporting.
ReportCyber (Australian Cyber Security Centre)
Reporting cybercrime.
We also point to independent support services such as Kids Helpline, Lifeline and the Butterfly Foundation. These are not government websites. We link to them because they can help, and we are not responsible for their content.
1. General information only
Everything on Tuned In is general information to help parents and carers understand the online world. It does not take into account your child, your family or your situation.
The Pulse check, the Slang decoder, the Red flags and the conversation starters are guides to start a conversation. They are not a risk assessment, a diagnosis, or a prediction about any child or any app.
2. Not professional advice
Tuned In is not medical, legal, psychological, financial or other professional advice, and using this site does not create a professional relationship between you and us.
If you are worried about your child's health, safety or wellbeing, speak to a qualified professional such as your GP, your child's school, or one of the support services listed on this site.
3. In an emergency
If someone is in danger right now, call 000. Do not use this site to decide whether to get help. Get help first.
4. Accuracy and changes
Apps, slang, laws and trends change quickly. We try to keep the site accurate and up to date, and we show when information was last checked, but we cannot promise that everything is complete, current or right for every family.
Word meanings in the Slang decoder vary between groups and change over time. The labels we give them (such as Totally fine, Worth a chat and Take it seriously) are a guide only.
5. Third-party websites and services
We link to websites and services run by other people, including government agencies and charities. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content or availability.
Mentioning an app, game or service does not mean we endorse it. Tuned In is not affiliated with any app, game or platform we mention.
6. Using this site
You can use Tuned In for your own personal, non-commercial use. Please do not copy, republish or sell our content, including our mascot Pip, without our written permission.
Please do not use the site in a way that is unlawful, that harms others, or that interferes with how it works.
7. Your information
You do not need an account to use Tuned In. The Pulse check and Slang decoder run in your browser, and what you pick or paste into them is not sent to us. If we collect your email address, our Privacy policy explains what we do with it. You can read it at /privacy.
8. Limits on our responsibility
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or harm that comes from relying on information on this site, or from not being able to use it.
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law or any other law that cannot be excluded.
9. Changes and governing law
We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when they were last changed. Using the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
These terms are governed by the laws of [CONFIRM state or territory], Australia, and you agree to the courts of that place.
10. Contact
